Vintage Felton’s New England Rum 1 Pint Clear Glass Embossed Bottle “Since 1819”
The “Since 1819” embossed on your Felton’s New England Rum bottle refers to the founding of the Felton family rum business, not the age of the bottle itself.
History of Felton’s New England Rum
The company traces its roots to 1819, when Luther Felton entered the rum business in Boston as part of Bennett & Felton. Over the following decades, the company evolved into Felton & Son, becoming one of the most recognized producers of traditional New England rum. Luther Felton Peter’s Rum Labels
By the late 1800s, the company was producing several brands, including:
- Felton’s New England Rum
- Crystal Spring Rum
- Pilgrim Straight New England Rum
- Old Felton Rye Whiskey
Originally the company sold rum in barrels to taverns and wholesalers. Around 1893, it began bottling its own brands for retail sale. Peter’s Rum Labels
The Distillery
Felton built a major distillery in South Boston in the 1830s and 1840s. The facility operated through multiple generations of the family and became one of the last surviving producers of authentic New England rum. Production continued until about 1983, and the business finally closed around 1991. Spirits
About Your Bottle
Most clear-glass embossed pint bottles marked:
“Felton’s New England Rum”
“Since 1819”
were produced during the late 1930s through 1940s, especially if they also carry the embossed statement:
“Federal Law Forbids Sale or Reuse of This Bottle”
That wording appeared after the repeal of Prohibition and is commonly found on bottles from that era. A nearly identical example has been identified as circa 1941. Duckwells
